Tôi được gọi lên bảng, trong lòng rất hoang mang, và tự trách mình mãi mãi. “Bài này đáng nhẽ phải học”. Thầy giáo nói với lời lẽ nhẹ nhàng, bình thản nhưng rất có hiệu lực. Từ trước tới nay ông chưa bao giờ có điều giải thích hoặc mượn cớ để trách móc. Ông chỉ nói: “Tôi chỉ cần vấn đề ấy, tôi không muốn nghe những lý do nào khác ngoài vấn đề trên.”
- “Thưa thầy, con đã học được 2 giờ”
- “Điều ấy không có ý nghĩa gì đối với tôi. Thầy muốn trò thuộc bài này. Em có thể không lên lớp hoặc có thể học trong 10 giờ, tùy em. Nhưng thầy muốn em học thuộc lòng bài này.”
Việc này thật khó khăn đối với tuổi trẻ của tôi, nhưng tôi lại tìm thấy chỗ có ích. Không đến một tháng, tôi đã nhận được năng lực dũng khí to lớn và suy nghĩ độc lập, tôi đã không sợ việc học thuộc lòng bài nữa.
Có một hôm, với giọng nói bình tĩnh lạnh lùng của thầy chụp lên đầu tôi trước mọi người trong lớp:
- “Không đúng!”.
Tôi do dự một chút, rồi lại bắt đầu đọc thuộc lòng từ đầu, và khi đọc đến chỗ lúc nãy, lại bị cắt đứt bởi câu “Không đúng!” và thôi không đọc nữa.
- “Để lần sau!”
Tôi ngồi xuống và chẳng hiểu sao nữa.
Bạn học khác cũng bị ngắt lời bằng câu “Không đúng!”, nhưng bạn ấy vẫn tiếp tục đọc thuộc lòng tiếp cho đến hết bài. Khi bạn ấy ngồi xuống, lại được câu tán thưởng: “Rất tốt!”.
Tại sao thầy không nói “Đúng!” và để tôi đọc tiếp?
- “Chỉ hiểu bài không thì chưa đủ, em phải tìm hiểu bài sâu hơn nữa. Ngoài việc trong bản thân em đã tin ra, nếu không em chẳng học được cái gì cả. Nếu như toàn thế giới đều nói “không” đối với những việc mà em cho là “đúng” thì em phải chứng minh cho người ta xem”.
Sự rèn luyện có lợi ích nhất của thầy giáo cho học sinh là để các em tự dựa vào mình. Nếu khi một thanh niên không học được tự lập, anh ta sẽ là kẻ yếu đuối và là kẻ thất bại.
