Một lần nọ, có một người nông dân bị mất một chiếc đồng hồ trong kho thóc. Đó không phải là một cái đồng hồ thông thường bởi nó còn có giá trị về mặt tình cảm đối với ông.

Nghe thấy vậy, đám trẻ con nhanh chân chạy xung quanh kho thóc tìm kiếm. Chúng đi khắp nơi, lục tìm ở mọi chỗ, từ nơi chứa thóc đến tận cả chỗ cho gia súc ăn, nhưng vẫn không thấy. Chỉ đến khi ông đề nghị bọn trẻ dừng việc tìm kiếm thì có bé trai chạy tới và yêu cầu ông cho nó một cơ hội nữa.
Người nông dân nhìn đứa bé và nghĩ: "Tại sao lại không chứ? Sau tất cả thì cậu bé này có vẻ khá chân thành". Ông dẫn cậu bé trở lại trong kho. Một lúc sau, cậu đã chạy ra và trên tay là chiếc đồng hồ của ông. Người nông dân rất hạnh phúc và ngạc nhiên, ông hỏi cậu bé: "Làm cách nào mà cháu có được nó, sau khi tất cả các bạn khác đã từ bỏ?".
Cậu bé đáp: "Cháu không làm gì cả và chỉ ngồi im một chỗ để lắng nghe. Trong im lặng, cháu thấy tiếng kim đồng hồ chạy và theo đó cháu tìm ra nó".
